3/26/2023 0 Comments Reaper for mac redditThere is a massive list of plugins that don't work on the top of reaper osx forum as a sticky but my experience is that this is just the tip of the iceberg. automation faults / bugs too - automation is not present visually on the mixer on reaper 4.7 - 5 which makes analogue style automation impossible = v. Too many simple show stopping problems to list but 3rd party plugins and even ( rarely ) reapers own plugins have had major issues for me. It supports vst and au but in practice it is not specifically designed for either and this causes many plugin problems and stability issues on OSX. I can use it, record and automate ( painfully slowly ) but there is no guarantee of stability due to driver ( both core audio and interface drivers ), and 3rd party plugins. It is unusable as a professional tool for me on osx 10.7.5 ( using v4.7.1 - 5 reaper 64 bit) despite others having luck on that osx apparently. Also, one wrong setting in reapers multitude of options in preferences and it can cripple the system. As you know all DAW's have their share of issues but for me reaper on osx has been a non starter despite much effort. I sympathise with your situation, i really do. It will write a new prefs file and you can set up the device again. Rename the reaper.ini file and reboot it. The crash when inserting plugin is likely due to it being told it's there but isn't really.Īs far as the device issue, go to the Reaper folder in App Support. Possibly someone else set it wrong and it has to look in that wrong place first until it finds it and then has to reload. Go to prefs/plugins/VST and clear the plugin cache and set it to the correct location. Sounds like it's gotten confused about the plugin path. It sounds more like it's how it's dealing with a certain plugin than its own behavior, or it could be particular to a MacPro thing. Those who say there's nothing it can't do are simply incorrect.īut I use it at home and hit it hard and stability is one thing I can never complain about. All due respect to the folks at Cockos, but it definitely is geared toward the project studio workflow and not what a straightforward professional environment needs. I don't use it in professional situations because I grew weary of how it could do a jillion amazing things I'd never need and yet couldn't do certain simple things simply or at all. Never had it disconnect from a variety of interfaces. Never had it scan plugin folders when it shouldn't. Reaper has for years been the most stable DAW I've used. Can't remember what I was doing though, think I was opening VIs and throwing on plugins and recording midi and such.Ģ Macbook Pros, 10.10.5 and 10.6.8, loaded with every ridiculous free plugin imaginable and a handful of the standard software vendors ones, all sample rates. It did crash on me the first time I used it (OSX 10.8). (Not sore what i can do with a clean installed computer with latest Reaper version).I demo'd Reaper twice in the past few years and just didn't like it, specifically how the UI was organized and such. Minus these very spesific plugins causing havoc, Reaper has always been super stable and slick considering running and loading. Some plugins just don't like Reaper, and / or Reaper just doesn't like some plugins. Crashing mid session, loading a session, closing a session, scanning plugins. Even though over 10 years and groving rapidly, Reaper isn't still much of a priority for some developers.įor example, Slate plugins and AA Acqua plugins have always been super unstable for me with OSX Reaper, regardless of plugin version, computer specs, Reaper versions etc. (Not sore what i can do with a clean installed computer with latest Reaper version). You might possibly just have some bad luck regarding plugins and drivers. Is Reaper simply unusable on Mac or is there something i am missing? I know Reaper quite a bit because some clients of mine work with it, but this is the first time i run it on Mac ( the top of the recent Mac pro line). It keeps scanning for plugins infinitely and when i try to load a plugin on a channel it just hangs up on me. And when it works at all it's unbearably slow. It's constantly crashing or losing touch with the audio interface drivers. Reaper is a total daw nightmare on my Mac. Well, i can give a long story about what happened. I decided to not jump the pt12 subscription band wagon, i was done with logic and cubase is not that great on Mac either. I had such high hopes for Reaper, i really sympathise with the overall concept and philosophy.
